More Good News for HS Cross Country

The Tiger harriers made their annual trip to the Oakville Indian Mounds for the Chickasaw Trails Invitational (though no invitations are given) and came home with two team trophies and lots of new personal records!

The girls led off as usual with Mia Owen (whose grandmother turned 90 on race day!), Latham Hall, and Abby Schoenecker all running smart and determined, moving up into the top 20 by race’s end. After a little gap, the bulk of the rest of the varsity streamed in, enough to boost the team into third place! It was great to see so many new runners don our new black and Columbia blue singlets and run so well.

The boys raced an hour later, as the day had gotten very steamy. That didn’t deter now-two-time winner Nick Sieders who took control of the race by the 2-mile mark and took the victory. Timmy Hays and Pelham Bergesen (who passed 70% of the runners ahead of him in the race’s second half) finished in 4th and 7th, but the team was just edged out for first and brought home a second-place trophy.

The JV runners had the most sweltering experiences, but there were many great races among them, despite the conditions. Kudos to many of the new girls’ runners for their continued exploration of 5k running, and to the many boys now challenging for varsity spots.

We’re back in action this Saturday for our most local race until mid-October - come on out to Buckner Park in Dickson if you’d like to see us in action!
