Awesome Game!

A great come back win that showcases the growth and development throughout this season! Great win Tigers!
The USN Tigers had an opportunity late Friday afternoon to tie up their series against Antioch High School. In their first matchup of the season, Antioch made a late game push and came back to beat the Tigers 15-14. In this second match up, the Tigers were down a few starters but it was clear from their warm up, their communication, their cheers, that they were ready to compete for the win! In the first inning the team needed to settle into their new positions, while they made the right decisions/throws, a few bobbles here and a small slip there kept them from three up, three down. Those almost outs could’ve dampened the team’s spirits, but everyone’s collective resilience and support lead to an awesome come back in the second inning, where the Tiger’s held Antoich to 0 runs while earning 7 runs in the bottom of the second! From there on the Tiger’s never looked back. While Antioch was still finding ways to hit the gaps and make moves on offense, the Tiger’s never let them lead for long.

It was a great game with some amazing team offense. The Tigers collected 19 stolen bases and 14 RBI’s, showing how they’ve improved their aggressive style of base running and their execution of offensive plays when called upon. For example, Amelie Soslow ‘25 was able to execute two different bunt plays, which forced defensive errors and allowed her teammates to advance along the bases and allowed Amelie to get safe as well! Grayson Princehorn ‘26 was another player who really stepped up. With 4 plate appearances she was walked once and then earned three hits, collecting 3 RBIs in the process! Then finally Zahra Ansari ‘27 earned a triple off a great hit to right field, which also earned her 2 RBIs.

On defense the Tigers were hitting their cut offs and were able to keep Antioch’s running/steals under control most of the game. The Tigers only earned 6 errors the entire game, which is a testament to their discipline and communication and even had a shutout in the second inning. Caroline Keiper ‘25 and Zahra Ansari ‘27 worked together for an awesome throw down play, which picked off the runner trying to steal, it was an amazing throw and Zahra held the tag when the play overran the bag/lost balance! The Tigers continue to rack up the double plays through this season! To help cap off a great game, Ellie Rothman ‘25 kept the team steady with her consistent pitching. She threw a total of 106 pitches, earned two strikeouts, and had a 53 strike percentage. Ellie also executed multiple change-up calls which led to outs!

It was super fun seeing all their hard work come together at once. The team did the little things consistently, but also came out with some big things that kept the momentum in the Tiger’s favor most of the game. A well earned game! Keep it up Tigers, good luck this week and finish out the season strong!
