The Tigers had a complete game with dominant offense and dominant defense that led to one of the most exciting softball games in recent memory! Keep blazing your path in softball history Tigers!
After a tough, competitive loss Tuesday, the Tigers went back to the drawing board Wednesday to reconfigure their game plan and sharpen their skills to come back against an athletic, talented Cane Ridge team. That dedication and focus paid off in spades with the Tigers coming together to play one of the best games they’ve ever played! Whether it was defense or offense they played cohesively and stayed positive. That growth mindset and that obsession with “the next play” made all the difference along with their growing skills!
Offensively is was consistent and fun. It was the most complete offensive game the Tigers have had since the early 2010s. The offense was finding gaps, capitalizing on the few Cane Ridge errors, and being disciplined on the base lines. The Tigers again found themselves able to put up runs in most of the innings, but they really exploded in the fourth, where they needed to close out the game before Cane Ridge could try to make a last inning push. Some of the biggest offensive highlights came from freshmen Zahra Ansari ‘27, who went 4/4 at the plate and really inspired the Tigers with her mental toughness as she fought out of multiple 1-2 situations for base hits! Caroline Keiper ‘25 and Yvonne Thomas ‘25 both showed up in big moments each collecting a valuable double. And Lulu Rose Gilberd ‘27 helped ice the game with an incredible gap shot single that led to two RBIs! It was truly an offense by committee with the Tigers earning 11 runs with 9 RBIs!
Behind every great offense is a better defense. After having a tough game against Antioch earlier in the week, where self-inflicted errors lost the Tigers the game, the Tiger came focused, determined, and ready to push through any mistakes against Cane Ridge. That confidence and growth mindset helped the Tigers only have 4 errors and another shutout inning in the third inning! The outfield was tracking well the entire game, backing up throws, moving at the crack of the bat, and their patience earned an incredible moment for Ash Weinmen ‘26 with an amazing foul ball catch deep in left field that invigorated the team! Caroline Keiper ‘25 again showed an incredible amount of strength and leadership behind the plate, blocking balls, communicating with her teammates, and more! Ellie Rothman ‘25 ended the game throwing 92 pitches, earned a new high of 7 strikeouts, and earned a 52 strike percentage! To close out the game Alena Ellis ‘25 gathered a hard ground ball at shortstop, took her time and made the throw to Jessica Penilton ‘24 at first to end a thriller of a game.
A truly memorable game that shows this team is putting in the work and can make adjustments game to game. While the road ahead is never easy, this staple win will serve as a reminder of how this team is able to execute, be positive after tough plays, and have fun when competing! Keep up the good work Tigers! More opportunities for greatness await y’all!
