8/15 - Intra Squad Season Opener
The USN cross country teams officially kicked off their season with a 2-mile intra-squad meet on a steamy Saturday night at the Rampus. Featuring four co-ed teams of Tigers, the meet served as a fun and competitive dress rehearsal for future evening races this season. While the heat and and humidity made for challenging conditions, runners put their summer heat training to the test and the results were promising. Click for full recap and more photos!

The boys were led by senior Davidson, who crossed the finish line in a commanding first place with a time of 10:13. Following close behind in a tight race to the finish line were Zwerner ’28 (10:26) and Freifeld ’28 (10:28). Fruin ’27 finished shortly after in 10:49, while the Little twins ’28 battled all the way to a photo finish, both recording a time of 11:26. Freshman standout Tift '30 rounded out the top seven boys in an impressive 11:29.

On the girls’ side, senior Wiseman once again led the way as the top female finisher in 13:04. Next to cross were Junior newcomer and early-season standout Borinstein (14:14) and veteran Seale '27 (14:20). Lasher '287 (15:14), Harrison '27 (15:37), XC rookie Kehler '28 (15:43), and Ritter '27 (15:53) completed the girls’ top seven for the evening.
While there were plenty of exciting moments throughout the race, perhaps most exciting was seeing 11 athletes race in the HS Tiger singlet for the very first time. Five boys (Tift, Schwartz, Chitale, Rodrigues, and Tyska), and six girls (Borinstein, Kehler, Garrison, LeClere, Ginsberg and Lueken) made their high school racing debuts. For some, this was their very first opportunity to experience the excitement of representing the Tigers in competition. All responded with terrific efforts and performances full of potential.
Everyone who raced gained valuable insight on their current race fitness and effective pacing and racing strategy. The Tigers next opportunity to apply this insight is just a week away! The teams head to Saturday Light Fever on August 22 at Sanders Ferry Park for their first 5k test of the season. The opener was a great start and there is plenty to be excited about as this group continues to build toward championship season!
