HS athletics recaps for January 16-22
As the basketball team celebrated homecoming, the co-op hockey team looked to close out the regular season on a high note. preparing for the upcoming Hine Cup Playoffs. Read more on the latest from USN Athletics in this week's recap by Athletic Director Josh Scouten.

The USN hockey co-op team with Brentwood High School and Brentwood Academy continues to battle through the regular season with an overall record of 2-10-2. They have one remaining game in the regular season before the final playoff seedings are confirmed. The team will play at Centennial Sportsplex on Monday, January 26, at 6:30 p.m. against Rutherford Co. Rampage in a game that would boost its spot in the upcoming Hine Cup Playoffs.

Our teams had a great turnout for last week’s Homecoming games. JV Boys began the night against Mt. Juliet Christian Academy, showing significant growth in their skills. They put up some solid points, winning the game 52-39. Up next, the Varsity Girls played the TN Heat. They had the lead in the first half, but after a close matchup, the Heat won with a final score of 45-30. To close out our Homecoming celebrations, Varsity Boys took the court to play Mt. Juliet Christian Academy. Jamison Jackson ’28 led the team with 32 points, bringing the Tigers to a 75-29 win.
On Saturday, Boys & Girls Varsity traveled to Friendship Christian School and were handed tough losses. Taking Sunday to recover, they were back at it in the Sperling Gym for their Tuesday home games against Whites Creek High School. JV Boys struggled to score in the first half but came back stronger after halftime, putting up a good fight. Unfortunately, it was not enough to win the game, as the team lost 38-25. Varsity Girls followed with a close & even matchup, falling short with a final score of 27-21. Finally, the Varsity Boys faced an intense physical challenge in their game. Whites Creek played with strength and intensity, leading to many fouls and free throws. Eli Whelan ’28 took some tough hits, but was a major contributor to this game. Ultimately, the team faced a 73-42 loss.
