USN captures Ethics Bowl Championship
For the third year in a row, USN has won the Tennessee Regional Ethics Bowl Championship. Congratulations to Coco Shepard ’27, Alice Littlehale ’26, Alice Cramer ’28, Caroline Stinner ’27, Z Aulino ’26, and Kostas Rokas ’29 for this accomplishment.
Six USN students navigated wintry conditions on their way to Knoxville to compete in the Tennessee Regional Ethics Bowl Championship. Though every member of last year's championship team graduated, this year’s team never hesitated, stepped up, and defended USN's crown.
This year’s team consisted of Coco Shepard ’27, Alice Littlehale ’26, Alice Cramer ’28, Caroline Stinner ’27, Z Aulino ’26, and Kostas Rokas ’29.
Winning a round takes thinking together about real moral questions with nuance, openness, and curiosity. In each of these cases, the team worked collaboratively to outline the ethical stakes, take a clear position, and defend or adapt it in real time in response to questions from other teams and trained philosophers.
Faithful to the spirit of student independence at USN, this team was self-coached and student-run. They researched, debated, and constructed all their arguments together.
“It is a sheer joy to be around these young people; they show off what we know about our school: that it produces clear, engaged, and ethical thinkers,” said Ethics Bowl Coach Jeff Edmonds. “It is a standing joke, but for real, I do not coach these kids. Their coaches are the teachers that inspire them every day -- no team can compete because this form of thinking is just the air our USN kids breathe.”
The win here gives the team a chance to compete in the Divisional Round. This match will be online via Zoom, with the same format, with USN taking on the winner of a different region. The winner of that match will then have a chance to go to the national tournament.

Spring sports season ends with podium finishes, trophies
The girls lacrosse team ended its season in overtime to become state runner-up. Tennis players Carter Kojetin '29 finished as a state quarterfinalist, Sophie Oliver '26 and Mary Kate Adler '28 finished as state semifinalists, and Veer Kodali '29 and Max Parker '29 finished as state champions. Meanwhile, eight runners competed at the state track and field meet in Knoxville, where Griffin Davidson '27, Caleb Freifeld '28, Drew Zwerner '28, and Jack Fruin '27, sprinted to first in the 4x800m relay and Jack also placed first in the 800m dash.Read More -

Middle School Quiz Bowl competes at national championship
The Middle School Quiz Bowl finished off another successful season with a trip to the Middle School National Championship Tournament in Chicago. The team fought hard and ended the season as a top-100 program in the country, finishing 75th overall. Congratulations to the team on a great performance and to Lucas Lupu ’31, named an All Star for being the fifth-highest scorer nationwide.Read More
