Generals End Season on Winning Note

he Harding varsity football team took to the field one last time this past Tuesday in a matchup against Donelson Christian Academy (DCA). What was supposed to be an away game, turned into a last minute change to a home game and one final opportunity to play at Sohr Family Track and Field. After trailing at halftime 8-6, the Generals came out with purpose in the second half and ended up pulling away for an 18-8 victory.

The Generals were led by the running of 8th grade quarterback Chase Franck and the throwing of 7th grade quarterback Walker Derryberry. Franck scored Harding's first and only touchdown of the opening half on a quarterback keeper. Derryberry connected with Khalil Anderson (USN'23) on a beautifully thrown fade route in the 4th quarter to put the game out of reach. Franck also scored the other Generals touchdown in the second half on a quarterback sweep. Leading the way up front on both sides of the ball were 8th graders Nathaniel Nelson, Mark Ryan Henderson, Huston Thrasher and Walker Lindsey. Connor Corby stepped into a role at tight end to fill a need for an injured player. 8th graders Max Lisnyanski and Noah Kim (USN'23) also had to shift positions to help the Generals put their best 11 on the field from a matchup standpoint.

It was a challenging season with only 14 players suited up for most games, but the Harding boys never let that hold them back nor was it used as an excuse. Coach Lucas and the football staff were extremely proud of their effort and enthusiasm throughout the season despite being small in numbers. A victory over an opponent that suited out 28 players was a fitting way to end the year for this group. Go Generals!
