A Nail Bitter at Home!
The first home game of the season for this Tigers team did not disappoint with a lot of ups and downs and an eventual well deserved win!
In the first half of the game both teams took time to adjust; The Tigers had to adjust to St Cecilia’s 1-2-2 zone and St. Cecilia had to adjust to the Tiger’s fast paced, aggressive play. The Tigers were able to get a lot of paint touches early on, which led to early free throws. Then on defense the Tigers were able to get into the passing lanes, which forced St. Cecilia to adjust their plays. St. Cecilia ran a horns offense with handoffs, which made their plays harder to defend. Despite the adjustment the Tigers ended the first half with a 4 point lead.
In the second half St. Cecilia came out hot. They began crashing the boards with gusto, leaving the Tigers scrambling to defend 2nd and 3rd chance points. This hustle paid off and St. Cecilia found themselves with the edge. After mixing up the line up, the Tigers were able to regroup and slow things down, but they unfortunately weren't able to score at all in the 3rd. The 4th quarter is where the Tigers really came together as a team and began playing with pace without rushing. 5 different players ended up scoring in the 4th quarter and collectively they applied a strong full court man-to-man press that brought back the team’s energy. It was so exciting to see the Tigers fight back from a deficit and end up with the win.
It was an awesome second game where the Tigers showed resilience and the ability to adjust game to game! The notable players of the game were Zara Campos with 3 rebounds and 10 points, Johnsie Dawkins with 6 steals and 6 points, and CC Cook with a timely 5 points in the 4th that helped the Tigers close out the game!
