1 rough defensive inning + lack of offense = a hard game to compete in
The days that led up to this Friday game were full of rain and storms, which was unfortunate since the Tigers lost some of their routine and groove that has been building since the early season scrimmages. On Friday Mt. Juliet Christian Academy and the USN Tigers had to pivot due to the weather, which made the River Campus field unplayable. While Mt. Juliet was gracious enough to host, the Tigers then had to travel and jump straight into the game.
Again, Amelie Soslow shows off her speed and bunting ability to give the Tigers some early energy, but Mt. Juliet showed a lot of discipline and skill as they kept the Tigers from moving Amelie around, ending the inning with Amelie on base. 
It was the bottom of the 2nd where Mt. Juliet Christian Academy did their damage. They scored 7 out of 11 of their runs, mostly due to hard grounders in the 5-6 hole and great base running. While the Tigers kept their head high and found themselves out of that inning, the offense was never able to get out of its slump. Every batter was able to get the pitcher in a high count, but most struggled winning the battle. 
In the final 2 innings, the Tigers buckled down and demonstrated their heart and focus. They prevented Mt. Juliet from scoring any more runs and for the first time they earned their first “3 up 3 down” (when a team sends three batters to the plate in the inning and all three end up getting out) in the bottom of the 4th. Ellie Rothman ended up pitching the entire game, accumulating 77 total pitches with 2 strikeouts and a 53% strike percentage! 
Once the Tigers get more experience playing they will get better at controlling the tempo and momentum of the game, which will mitigate teams from getting those big, game changing, innings. The Tigers have demonstrated they can play great defense, now they just need to find a way to be confident at the plate and get the bats rolling early. Keep working on the details Tigers and good luck!
