Lindsey Bachman
Taking advantage of a nearly "at home" opportunity, 6 Tigers competed in the KYA Indoor Classic this weekend at Vanderbuilt.

In their debut races of the season, junior Alima Kassim, senior Sidney Ware, and freshman Binyam Dunne all ran the 60m and 200m. Alima and Sidney had commanding first place finishes in both their preliminary heats of the 60 and 200, clocking what would end up being their fastest times of the days. Alima running a 7.79 and 25.16, and Sid nearly breaking the 7 and 23s marks with 7:09 and 23.00. In a very fast 60m finals field, Alima went on to finish 3rd with a time of 7.80 and Sidney 5th with a 7.12. In heats largely dominated by upperclassmen, Binyam ran solid times of 7.93 and 25.63!

Rocking a full 4 event line up, senior Olivia Jelsma competed in the HJ, LJ, 60H, and 4x4. Jelsma posted strong and consistent marks across all her events, earning a season PR in the LJ with a jump of 5.07M(12th place), 9.81 in the hurdles (15th), and nearly running a sub 60s quarter on her lead off leg of the 4x4 after a very long day!

In the distance events, freshman Ryder Ortner and 8th grader Jack Fruin ran excellent races in competitive fields loaded with upperclassmen. In his first official 800m race ever, Ryder ran a well paced 2:06.86 finishing 34th in a field of 110! Next up, both boys competed in the 4000m DMR, where their team comprised of two 8th graders and 2 freshmen ran an impressive time of 11:40.32, placing them 5th overall! Finally, in the second to last event of the night, Jack put together a great race in the MS mile, running to a finish time of 5:01.36!

Complete meet results are linked here.

If you see these Tigers in the hall, be sure to give them a high five as they all logged a 12+hr day at the meet and turned out some excellent performances!
