Alumna's handmade jewelry to benefit USN

Mclaine Richardson '04 pulls inspiration for jewelry from USN's colorful staircase mural by Myles Maillie.
Jeweler and alumna Mclaine Richardson '04 has created a limited edition collection paying homage to University School of Nashville's iconic staircase mural to benefit USN.

Her handcrafted earrings, brooches, and necklaces are reminiscent of the 3-decade-old Myles Maillie mural on the stairs connecting the first and second floors near the bookstore and Middle School hallways.

"Going to USN as a 13 Year Club member, I passed by that mural every day. Myles was also the featured artist for Summer Lights each year and I wore his T-shirts, so to me, he was the quintessential Nashville artist. It seemed appropriate to create something special for Artclectic’s 20th anniversary since USN played a major role in me becoming an artist," she said, reflecting on how the colorful staircase led to the photography lab and art classes before the Tibbot Center addition.

Richardson, who owns Margaret Ellis Jewelry in Cummins Station, has pledged 30 percent of proceeds from the sale of her USN-inspired earrings, brooches, and necklaces will benefit USN's Artclectic Endowment Fund for Innovative Teaching.

The Maillie collection will be available in studio and online through Tuesday, Jan. 31.
