Endowment Funds Benefit Many

by Anne Westfall, development director

In this single newsletter, you find three stories about the ways that our endowment funds benefit students and teachers at USN.
The Shmerling Chair for Excellence in Teaching, established in 2005 by Lisa and Mike Shmerling, recognizes and rewards some of our most outstanding teachers, with Marty Kennedy the latest one to receive the Chair.

The Lois McMullan Scholarship Fund, established in 2003 in honor of a beloved PDS English teacher by Mark Venrick '48 and his classmates, recognizes two or three students at the end of their junior year "for demonstrated leadership and academic excellence."

The Helen Meador Travel Fellowship, established in 2011 by Jon Shayne '80 and Ann Meador Shayne '81, allowed art teacher Emily Holt to travel to Italy in the summer of 2015 to attend a workshop on creating giant puppets. This year her students have reaped the benefits.
