Latin Students Prevail in Competition

by Tim Russell

This Saturday at Clarksville High School, three USN teams competed in the certamen (Latin quiz bowl) portion of the Mid-State Latin tournament. The questions were difficult, the competition was fierce, but, in the end...

The Novice (Latin 1/2 and I) team of Skye Cameron, Nick Gregory, Varun Gudibanda and Paul Reich finished third.

The Intermediate (Latin 2) team of Yashwina Canter, Grant Eidam, Matthew Hays, and Zach Stern finished first (by a narrow five point margin).

The Advanced (Latin 3+) team of Mark Arildsen and Sam Douglas finished first.

More significantly, the results of the academic tests on Thursday were also reported, and the USN team did...well...:

...if you weren't keeping track, that's a total of 97 academic awards.

Finally, these, the various arts awards, and the certamen awards are totaled to determine which school is the overall sweepstakes winner, and that school is...

...our friendly rivals at Hume-Fogg Magnet (who submitted MANY art projects, written projects, costumes...).

But close behind them at number two was University School of Nashville. Congratulations to this amazing, intelligent group.
