MS athletics recaps for September 3-10
Our Middle School teams have been crushing the courts this week. With strong performances by all volleyball teams and wins for both boys and girls tennis, the Tigers aren’t slowing down as they reach the midpoint of their seasons. Mountain biking will hit the trails for race No. 2 this weekend, and cross country runners crushed their first home meet.
Please join us at our home High School volleyball games on Thursday, September 17 in the Sperling Gym, where our teams and school community will come together to honor the legacy of late Fitness Center Director William B. Scott. There will be space to share memories, be in community with one another, and remember a beloved member of the USN community. We hope to see you all there.
Volleyball
Last Friday night, the 7th & 8th grade teams played Harding Academy in Sperling Gym. The game was close from the start- with competitive play on both sides during the JV game. Luckily, the Tigers rose to the occasion, winning the first set 25-22. After a quick break to regroup, they dominated the court winning 25-11 for an overall 2-0 win. This win got our varsity team pumped up, leading to 25-9 wins in both sets, taking the match 2-0. Their hard work in practice is paying off on the court.
After a long weekend, the Tigers had a Wednesday afternoon match up versus Harpeth Hall in Cheek Gym. JV began the matches, with the first set being led by Harpeth Hall until the Tigers came together for a 25-23 comeback win. Their confidence carried over to the second set, fiercely competing to result in a 26-24 win and a 2-0 win overall. Varsity took to the court next in hopes of securing another win for the night. The Tigers took the first set 25-22 with strong plays across the board, and then came back to win the second set 25-19 for a 2-0 win. Really impressive work by our volleyball athletes- learning from mistakes and defying odds on the court!

Tennis
After a week hiatus with the heat advisory, the Boys Tennis Tigers returned to action at Brentwood Academy. The Tigers came away with a 4-1 win and won 3+ exhibition matches.
While the boys team was away, the girls team hosted the Brentwood Academy team at the River Campus. Despite the heat, our mighty Tigers took down AAA level BA 4-1 with some thrilling matches.
Audrey at line 1 was out playing her opponent 5-3 when her opponent retired. Ekat was on fire on court 2 and easily dispatched her opponent. Charlotte on court 3 was the comeback kid! Down 2-5, Charlotte battled and game by game won 6 games in a row to capture the win. Olivia and Adella outsmarted their doubles opponents by playing a new formation that helped secure their win at 8-6. Vivi and Sofia had a great match taking their opponents to a tiebreaker only to fall just a little short.
Mae, Lucy and Dorian had some great experience in their practice singles and doubles matches! So proud of our battle worthy Tigers — hear them ROAR!
Next up, both teams face Harding Academy on Thursday 9/10 and the girls head to an away match at Harpeth Hall on Friday.
Mountain Biking Team
USN Middle School & High School mountain bikers will take to the trails at Pugh Bourne Park in Oakfield, TN on Sunday 9/13. Be sure to send your well wishes as they compete in their second race of the season.
Cross Country
After last week’s cancellation due to the heat wave, the Tigers finally got to compete in the first home meet of the season. Official race results will come in next week’s recap, but we know that our Tigers crushed it.
