HS athletics recaps for September 3-10

The Tigers have come back strong after time away on retreats & a holiday weekend. While golf is nearing the end of its season, cross country and mountain biking are still at the beginning. Both teams are heading away to races this weekend. Girls soccer and volleyball are about halfway through their regular season competition, both teams with exciting district wins and more games to be played determining their standings for post season competition.

Please join us at our home volleyball games Thursday, September 17, where our teams and school community will come together to honor the legacy of late Fitness Center Director William B. Scott. There will be space to share memories, be in community with one another, and remember a beloved member of the USN community. We hope to see you all there.
Volleyball
HS Volleyball took on Friendship Christian in the Sperling Gym Wednesday night. JV Tigers won 2-1 over Friendship Christian JV. Madison ‘29 rolled off 17 straight points on serve in game 1 and the Tigers took game 3 15-10 to earn another W this season. Varsity Tigers then took the court in an extremely competitive match up. They won sets 1, 3, and 4 at home against Friendship Christian to pick up another district win, improving to 3-1 in district competition.

The Tigers will take home court again on Thursday, 9/17, where our teams and school community will come together to honor the legacy of late Fitness Center Director William B. Scott. There will be space to share memories, be in community with one another, and remember a beloved member of the USN community. We hope to see you all there.

Girls Soccer
Thursday night, the Tigers took on Davidson Academy at the River Campus. The team worked through some frustrations at the beginning of the game but were able to settle down, stay patient, and find their rhythm resulting in a 9-0 win. They remain undefeated in regular season play and look forward to continuing the streak as they play games versus Ezell-Harding, Clarksville Academy, and Merrol Hyde next week.

Football
Eli Whelan '28 returned to the gridiron with our DCA co-op team and had a big interception that was nearly returned for a touchdown to keep the game close with the defending state champions from Nashville Christian. They play Friday night at Providence Christian Academy at 7PM.

Golf
On Tuesday, the team took to the course to compete against Donelson Christian Academy. The USN girls started off the back 9 at Two Rivers GC. Lucia ‘27 and Arden ‘27, couldn’t have taken more different paths to the green. Arden stayed in the fairway to green side bunker, to green in 5 strokes, Lucia from rough to green in 2. Ultimately, USN girls took the win with 97 points versus DCA’s 118.

Our golfers spent Thursday at the Father Ryan Invitational. USN Girls golf ended with a score of 207, and USN Boys golf with 356. A week away from the district tournament, this score does not reflect the hard work that the teams have been putting in since early July. With a bit more time and play under their belts in the coming week, we feel confident that our golfers have the ability to be strong competitors in the district.

Mountain Biking Team
USN Middle School & High School mountain bikers will take to the trails at Pugh Bourne Park in Oakfield, TN on Sunday 9/13. Be sure to send your well wishes as they compete in their second race of the season.

Cross Country
This weekend, our cross country runners will head down to Alabama for their first overnight trip of the season. They will compete in the Chickasaw Trails Invitational, with results and recaps to come in the following week. Go Tigers!
