A preview of Director candidate visits
Please come with the understanding that we expect our time with each finalist to be courteous and appreciative of their experience and wisdom. Be sure to give yourself extra time to park and check in with receptionists for a visitor's badge before the sessions begin promptly at 8:15 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Each candidate's bio, evaluation survey links, and session location will be emailed to the USN community the day before each candidate arrives.
Dear USN families,
If I were really a New Englander instead of a transplant, I’d say we have a wicked exciting two weeks ahead of us with our Director finalists’ visits. Our Director Search Committee has worked hundreds of hours to get to know our candidate pool and to decide whom to invite to campus as finalists. I’m sure you join me in the excitement of meeting these four educators and helping them get to know USN live rather than via print or social media.
To that end, please plan on being part of the morning or late afternoon sessions set aside for parents and families in Durnan Auditorium. Search Co-Chairs Naima Walker-Fierce and Erin Zagnoev are asking parents and families to come with questions in mind to ask the candidates, and they will help facilitate a Q&A portion during the 45-minute session.
Here’s my ask of you: while every candidate is prepared to answer probing, even hard, questions, please come with the understanding that we expect our time with each of them to be courteous and appreciative of their experience and wisdom. Let’s be our very best USN selves for these guests; my hope is that each will leave their 2+ days with us thinking, “I’d LOVE to be part of that community.” Vibrant, warm, thoughtful, welcoming, good-humored, and a little spicy seem to me just the right mix.
Logistics: we’re asking faculty and staff who typically park in our 19th Avenue lot to use Vanderbilt University lots for the morning sessions, giving our USN parents and families additional parking on campus for the 8:15 a.m. sessions. Please allow yourselves plenty of time to park in Wesley Garage, on a nearby street, or in the 21st Avenue lot in case our 19th Avenue side is full. Additionally, since our students will be in the building, we’re asking that parents get a SchoolPass visitors badge as they come inside, which will of course require extra time.

Spring sports season ends with podium finishes, trophies
The girls lacrosse team ended its season in overtime to become state runner-up. Tennis players Carter Kojetin '29 finished as a state quarterfinalist, Sophie Oliver '26 and Mary Kate Adler '28 finished as state semifinalists, and Veer Kodali '29 and Max Parker '29 finished as state champions. Meanwhile, eight runners competed at the state track and field meet in Knoxville, where Griffin Davidson '27, Caleb Freifeld '28, Drew Zwerner '28, and Jack Fruin '27, sprinted to first in the 4x800m relay and Jack also placed first in the 800m dash.Read More -

Middle School Quiz Bowl competes at national championship
The Middle School Quiz Bowl finished off another successful season with a trip to the Middle School National Championship Tournament in Chicago. The team fought hard and ended the season as a top-100 program in the country, finishing 75th overall. Congratulations to the team on a great performance and to Lucas Lupu ’31, named an All Star for being the fifth-highest scorer nationwide.Read More
