4/10 Home Meet #2 - Tigers Turn in PR Performances!
Lindsey Bachman
The MS Track & Field team has been hard at work for the past two weeks digging into training geared to help them redefine their limits. With last week's meet at BGA canceled due to weather, our Tigers were hungry to face off against the competition of KIPP, Pope, Ezell-Harding, MJCA, and SBA. Also joining us out at the River Campus for their official debut meet of the season, was the USN 5th grade T&F team which has been expertly coached up by Coach Anderson since the return from spring break. The 5th grade team brought 12 eager and enthusiastic athletes (Lauren Koethe, Maggie Miller, Collins Spangler, Booker Ammons, Elijah Woodruff, Tyler Princehorn, Elias Freifeld, Rory Freiberg, James Keiper, Emmett Cheney, Arnav Mohan, and Julian Hansen) to compete in 5 events throughout the evening - long jump, discus, 800m, 100m, and a 4x200m relay. Two highlights were Rory throwing over 50feet in his first ever discus attempt and Lauren hoping into a heat of the 100m dash against an all 6th-8th grade field and nearly scoring. The crew showed a great desire to improve and was mighty in both their effort and support for one another. They were a wonderful positive addition to the meet and it's an opportunity we hope to create more of in the future!
Back to the MSTF action, our 6th-8th grade team posted some fantastic marks in the field and running events throughout the night! In his first throw of the night, Ishaan Nachnani launched nearly a triple digit throw, earning a mark of 94ft, which was a huge PR! Owen Spangler also made his debut in the throwing events, showing great promise in the disc with his strong technique and 3 clean and consistent throws all over 60ft. Speaking of debuts, Drew Zwerner and Ben Scretchen "jumped" into high jump for the first time, and showed they have more point scoring potential than just on the track. Drew nearly cleared 5ft, and with continued practice both could prove to be helpful supporters to their experienced high jumping teammates Krish Nachnani and Brody Sanders. In the girls field events, Mahalia Moore made a strong return in the long jump and high jump after a two week break recovering from a muscle strain, and our throwing squad of Greta Molvig, Alexandria Manoukian, and Hailey Gibson all earned PRs showing their work in practice is really paying off!
