Playing a Complete Game

The Tigers hosted Franklin Road Academy in their rescheduled game Thursday evening. It was a game of quarters, which means that each team was able to adjust every quarter to create a fun and exciting game. The Franklin Road Academy Panthers ended up getting the upper hand in 3 of the 4 quarters. The Tigers were able to showcase some amazing on ball, gap, and help side defense, in addition to some scramble defensive plays that were perfectly executed, however, the Panther’s owned the boards and held the lead due to their second chance points and extra efforts. In the second quarter the Tigers were able to find a groove on offense and cut the Panther’s lead back to single digits going into the half, 11-20. Unfortunately in the third and fourth quarter the Tigers weren’t able to continue with their offensive production and despite their strong effort on defense (keeping the Panther to only 5 points in each quarter), it wasn’t enough to stay within striking distance. The Tigers lost 16-31.

The notable players of the game were Zara Campos ‘28 with 8 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 steals and Johnsie Dawkins ‘28, Alexandria Manoukian ‘28, and Greta Molvig ‘28 who all exhibited amazing team defense by defending the gaps and getting into help side the entire game. 

While it was a tough game offensively for the young Tigers, it was beyond exciting to see some fast moving, physically disciplined defense. It highlights the amount of time, effort, and dedication these players have  put into having each other’s back and playing beyond themselves. This team continues to grow as they grapple with their weaknesses and find excitement in their strengths, it’s just a matter of staying together when things get tough because things never get easier, we just learn how to handle hard better. Let’s continue to play awesome defense, and never shy away from open opportunities on offense. Keep it up Tigers!
