A Tale of Two Halves
USN lost the first half 2-18, but in the second half they made a huge push offensively and defensively. They out scored Ensworth 18-9, turning a blowout to a close game in the 4th. USN lost in a strong last quarter effort 20-29.
The Tigers enter the other Tiger’s den, playing Ensworth Middle School Thursday night. The USN Tigers found themselves down early. They were getting a lot of great looks and many opportunities for second chance points, however the ball would not go into the hoop. The Ensworth Tigers took advantage of their size and athleticism with hard cuts, screens, and tenacity on the boards. Despite the energy and effort from all the USN players the first ended with a big deficit, 2-18.
With amazing grit and determination, the USN Tiger’s came out swinging in the 3rd. The shots started falling and defensively their effort led to tips and turnovers. The players kept their heads up and looked for ways to improve and took advantage of whatever chances they could to make a difference. With better ball movement and more communicative defense, things started to shift. With a collective effort from the USN Tigers they cut the game close in the 4th, but Ensworth’s discipline ultimately kept USN from breaking their lead. USN lost 20-29 in a tough, fun game.
Everyone found ways to contribute in this mentally tough game. With each player getting at least 2 points and 3 rebounds it was a game by committee! The notable players of the game were point guard Ruth Boehler ‘29 who led the team with 11 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals and Kenzie Burke ‘29 who had a standout defensive game with 5 rebounds and 5 steals! This team continues to find ways to shine and support each other through tough spots. The camaraderie and mental toughness makes this team exciting to root for! Keep it up Tigers!
