Inaugural Author Night is Oct. 6

Nashville author Mary Laura Philpott will read from her newly released memoir “Bomb Shelter: Love, Time, and Other Explosives” during this dinner fundraiser to benefit the Hassenfeld Library. Tickets for this adult-only event are $150 and for sale here.

We are excited to announce as part of Fall Book Frenzy a new event will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday October 6 at a private residence. Nashville author Mary Laura Philpott will read from her newly released memoir “Bomb Shelter: Love, Time, and Other Explosives,” followed by a discussion moderated by English Department Chair Freya Sachs ’00. Dinner will be served. Tickets are $150/person, on sale here, and include a copy of her book. For $250, a pair can attend this evening and share one copy of the book. This special evening is for those ages 21 and older.

Philpott is the nationally best-selling author of “I Miss You When I Blink.” Her newly released memoir was named a New York Times Book Review Editors’ Choice and one of NPR’s Favorite Books of 2022. “Bomb Shelter” has been hailed as “her new masterwork … genius” by The New York Times and “a beautifully wrought ode to life” by The Washington Post. Her essays have been featured in The Atlantic, The New York Times, and The Washington Post, among other publications. She is also the Emmy-winning co-host of “A Word on Words”, the literary interview program on Nashville Public Television.
