Lily '23 secures spot at state bowling tournament

Congratulations to Lily Mozzi '23 who finished 11th in the girls' division in the regional bowling tournament and Frederick Rudolph '23 who finished 18th in the boys' division. Lily advances to state and makes school history as the first Tiger to qualify for the state individual tournament.
By Jason Shuster, HS Bowling Coach

Frederick Rudolph '23 and Lily Mozzi '23 represented USN's bowling team on Monday, December 1 in the regional bowling tournament at Smyrna Bowling Center. The format was long, with all bowlers bowling six games, at which point the top 12 boys and top 12 girls advanced to the state tournament in January. The tournament was bowled on a sport shot in six games.

Both Lily and Frederick had their ups and downs during the first three games, after which Lily found herself in 11th place in the girls' division while Frederick was in 16th place in the boys' division.

Frederick kept grinding but could not get over the hump, winding up in a respectable 18th place. He was disappointed but found this to be a great learning experience, one that will serve him well next year. Meanwhile, Lily kept finding herself right near the cut line, and we knew that the last game would make or break her chances. In the ninth and 10th frames, Lily threw two strikes in a row, a strong finish that enabled her to end the match in 11th place.

Lily has qualified for the state tournament in January. In doing so, Lily makes school history as the first USN bowler to qualify for the state individual tournament. This is quite an accomplishment; if you see her in the halls, please congratulate her. She has been working hard to improve, and this shows that the work has paid off.
