By Wilson Hubbell, High School Science Teacher & Chess Team Advisor

The USN Chess Club welcomes USN Lower School and Middle School students of any skill level. Students' goals can include continuing mastery of the game, simply being introduced to rules, or learning more about chess.

Club meetings will be held on most Fridays after school during the year from 3 to 4 p.m., with several class choices based on experience. The classes meet in a kindergarten classroom and in the library classroom. For our most experienced players, there will be a second hour in the library classroom from 4 to 5 pm. For experienced Middle School players, there will an academic-style chess elective. The first meeting is Friday, Sept. 6, 2019.

The fee for this club is $125. Click here to register, and contact Wilson Hubbell for more information.

This past spring, USN sent three teams to the Tennessee Chess Association's State Scholastic Tournament and placed first overall at the Primary Level, fourth at the High School level, and seventh at the Elementary Level.
