Grant '24 receives national sports psychology honor

University School of Nashville baseball player Grant Reilly '24 was recently selected to the 2023 National Athletic Advisory Council.
Catch 23 Performance's National Athletic Advisory Council announced newly elected 2023 Council Members from a pool of thousands of candidates spanning the country on Monday, February 6. Grant Reilly '24 was among the members revealed and was selected unanimously in first-round voting. Grant is a three-year varsity starter for USN's High School baseball team and plays for Nashville Select 17U as well.

NAAC selection focuses on choosing high school student-athletes who exceed standards of excellence in athletics, academics, and personal character. Election to the council honors athletes from a sport psychology standpoint. To be selected, students must be nominated, apply for consideration, and complete an interview process; those moved through to the final round are voted on by a team comprised of collegiate and high school athletic directors, collegiate and professional athletes and coaches, executive coaches, sport psychology coaches, and other leadership professionals.

"Grant has learned to love the process," said Catch23 Performance owner, Kaci Allen. "Whether it’s the process of becoming a more skilled athlete, learning in challenging academic settings, or getting to know teammates and how to lead, learning to love the process is what makes great athletes, exceptional. Athletes who consistently focus on outcomes are more likely to get stuck, nervous, and not perform at their most optimal levels. Grant is the kind of athlete who seeks to learn more, works to execute what he’s learning, and then encourages teammates along the same lines. We are excited to have his contributions on the council and be part of his journey."

As a council member, Grant will support Catch23 in developing its programming for the nation's leading sport psychology program available to high school athletes, and he'll gain access and insight from leading athletes and experts on how to continue honing his mental game that he can bring back to his USN teammates as the Tigers prep for an exciting spring season.

"You'll be hard pressed to find someone more deserving of this recognition. Grant has committed to his training, studies, and teammates, and it shows. The future is so bright for this young man, and I can't wait to see how the rest of his story unfolds," PE Teacher & Head Baseball Coach Mike Gimblette shared.
