Science Olympiad team competes at state competition

15 members of the USN Science Olympiad Team traveled to the University of Tennessee-Knoxville for the state competition and returned to USN with several medals for their stellar performance.

After months of preparation, an invitational competition in January, and a successful qualification during the regional competition in March, 15 members of the USN Science Olympiad Team traveled to the University of Tennessee-Knoxville for the state competition on April 5th.

Competing in pairs, the students tackled 22 different events, spanning several categories, including earth and space science, technology and engineering, and the nature of science.

Against teams from across the state, USN students received medals in the following eight events:
  • Collin Chan ‘25 and Eva Choe ‘26 - 6th place in Anatomy and Physiology
  • Eleanor Molvig ‘25 and Amelie Soslow ‘25 - 6th place in Forensics
  • Collin Chan ‘25 and Vincent Kehler ‘26 - 5th place in Helicopter
  • Kati Tong ‘25 and Lin Zheng ‘26 - 2nd place in Material Science
  • Ruchika Ramachandran ‘27 and Suzie Zhao ‘28 - 6th place in Microbe Mission
  • Eliza Nichols ‘25 and Kati Tong ‘25 - 3rd place in Optics
  • Joseph Jewett ‘27 and Yvonne Wang ‘27 - 4th place in Wind Power
  • Eliza Nichols ‘25 and Lin Zheng ‘26 - 6th place in Write It Do It.

Meanwhile, eight runners competed at the state track and field meet in Knoxville, where Griffin Davidson '27, Caleb Freifeld '28, Drew Zwerner '28, and Jack Fruin '27, sprinted to first in the 4x800m relay and Jack also placed first in the 800m dash.
