On Wednesday, January 5, the Tigers played an exciting game in Sperling Gym against Webb Bell Buckle. The team ultimately claimed a victory over the opponents with a final score of 71-65. Josh Scretchen '22 was one of the team's top scorers with 24 points.
In the bleachers, a group of fans was spotted holding giant cardboard numbers spelling out "1,000." Cheers reached new volume and levels of enthusiasm as Josh scored a basket; he'd just scored his 1,000 point for USN's High School boys' basketball team.
In the school's history, only 36 coed student-athletes have succeeded in accumulating such a high scoring record.
"It's almost the equivalent of having a child born on leap year," Boys' Basketball Head Coach Mike Jones said of the rare accomplishment.
On Friday, January 14, the team honored Josh during its game against Grace Christian Academy.
"Josh is a phenomenal basketball player who works tremendously hard at his craft," Jones continued. "This accomplishment doesn't quite encapsulate how talented he is. We're all happy that he's been able to have this well-deserved moment."
Often among the team's top scorers, Josh has been an integral member of the basketball team throughout the season and has continued to dominate on the court surpassing 1,000 points as he focuses on the team's continued success.
K-12 Tigers and their families can share their school spirit by dressing up on themed day and returning to campus Friday, January 16 for the HS Habitat for Humanity Club's Spaghetti Supper and basketball games.
