8 seniors named National Merit Semifinalists

The National Merit Scholarship Corp. and USN applaud Kaya Booth, Latham Hall, Michael Kim, Greta Li, Arnav Reddy, Nandan Sarkar, Jude Warren, and Elena Wierich of the Class of 2022 for their high PSAT scores.
Eight University School of Nashville seniors are among the Semifinalists in the 67th annual National Merit Scholarship Program.
 
Kaya Booth, Latham Hall, Michael Kim, Greta Li, Arnav Reddy, Nandan Sarkar, Jude Warren, and Elena Wierich were selected from the pool of students who took the 2020 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. As Semifinalists, they represent less than 1 percent of U.S. high school seniors and are among the highest-scoring entrants in Tennessee. Director Vince Durnan, Head of High School Quinton Walker, and College Counseling Director Aaron Fulk congratulated them Friday, September 10.
 
These academically talented students have an opportunity to submit detailed applications with their academic record and community activities along with an essay and recommendation letter to continue in the competition for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships awarded in the spring. Merit Scholar designees are chosen from the finalist group based on scores, as well as an application in which they write about themselves to demonstrate skills and accomplishments. 
 
The National Merit Scholarship Corp. is a nonprofit organization providing scholarships underwritten by funds from the nonprofit, businesses, and higher education institutions that share its goals of honoring the nation’s scholastic champions and encouraging the pursuit of academic excellence. It has yet to announce Commended students.

  • Mountain Bike Team Takes on Winged Deer Trails, HS Makes Podium Appearance

    Winged Deer Park and trails in Johnson City hosted our 4th race on Sunday October 11th, and despite a bit of hurricane outwash winds and showers - and reduced team numbers due to fall break and distance from Nashville - our racers utilized all available skills and speed which helped “wing" Sophomore Claire Dehner to a 4th place podium spot, our first podium appearance and medal for the season.

  • HS athletics recaps for September 11-17

    Tiger golfers have officially qualified for the region tournament, and our other teams are not far behind. Volleyball sits near the top of the district, finishing up regular season play next week with Senior Night. Girls soccer continues to hold first place in the district after another 9-0 win, and our cross country runners are chasing after some school records. To round it all out, our mountain bike team traveled to Oakfield to continue to improve on their times for the season. There’s plenty more where that came from- so be sure to come out to the River Campus, Sperling Gym, or out on the road to cheer on our Tigers before their seasons end.

    Middle School volleyball and tennis teams are nearing the final games of their seasons, with the competition heating up while the Tigers play to determine their HVAC rankings. Cross country was finally able to race at the River Campus despite the heat, and our mountain biking team traveled to Oakfield, Tennessee, for a high-temperature race weekend.
