Statement supporting Asian Americans, Pacific Islanders
University School of Nashville shared the following message on March 18, 2021.
As instances of racism, harassment, and violence against Asian,
Asian American, and Pacific Islander communities continue to rise, University School of Nashville denounces these actions and reiterates its commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion. We support the AAPI community within the PDS/USN community, across the nation, and especially in Atlanta.
Here’s how you can support USN’s Asian American and Pacific Islander students, faculty, and families:
Support or join our Asian Affinity Group to give Asian-identifying students a safe space to discuss issues that pertain to their shared identities and a support system within our hallways
Read, share, and continue the conversation surrounding the school’s inaugural DEI Report
Educate yourself and your children on the history of discrimination against the AAPI community as our faculty continue to review curriculum to ensure it accurately represents historical racism, includes diverse narratives and authors, encourages students to embrace and celebrate their identities and those of their classmates
Reflect USN’s Guiding Principles, not just at school but also within the Nashville community, by supporting local AAPI businesses, speaking out against injustice, and being change leaders and responsible citizens
Every year, the American Library Association (ALA) invites libraries and communities to uphold the freedom to read by observing Banned Books Week. Read on to find out how the Hassenfeld Library celebrates this occasion, and to learn about an inspiring project from Emily Holt’s Book Art class last spring.
Alondra Martínez Ordaz ’26 recently won the Grand Prize at the Conexión Américas Orgullo Hispanic Awards Ceremony for her essay on the strength and resilience of the Hispanic community.
