Five University School of Nashville seniors are among the Semifinalists in the 65th annual National Merit Scholarship Program.
Quinn Booth, Ian Brash, Jacob Green, Claire Kim, and Cole McMillan were selected from the pool of students who took the 2018 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. As Semifinalists, they represent less than 1 percent of U.S. high school seniors and are among the highest-scoring entrants in Tennessee.
These academically talented students have an opportunity to submit detailed applications with their academic record and community activities along with an essay and recommendation letter to continue in the competition for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships awarded in the spring. Merit Scholar designees are chosen from the finalist group based on scores, as well as an application in which they write about themselves to demonstrate skills and accomplishments. This past spring, each USN Semifinalist in the Class of 2019 was named a Finalist and earned an accompanying National Merit Scholarship.
The National Merit Scholarship Corp. is a nonprofit organization providing scholarships underwritten by funds from the nonprofit, businesses, and higher education institutions that share its goals of honoring the nation’s scholastic champions and encouraging the pursuit of academic excellence. It has yet to announce Commended students.
Students and faculty have resumed composting at USN. Through collaboration, persistence, and student leadership across all divisions, the program has already gotten off to a great start.
Should snow or ice alter the school day, expect to receive a USN Alert by 5 a.m. This information will also be posted on the usn.org homepage and the school's official social media accounts, as well as shared with local broadcast stations. Be sure your wireless number is listed correctly in the usn.org directory to receive USN Alerts. Also, share your snow day fun by emailing socialmedia@usn.org or using #USNsnowday; we especially appreciate photos of the USN community wearing school gear.
