USN comes up just short in pitchers duel with Grace Christian

An instant classic! Both teams were strong on the mound Wednesday, but Grace Christian Academy was just a little bit stronger at the plate in their 3-1 victory over USN. Mahoney Daunic '24 went the distance for USN, tossing 6 innings of 6 hit baseball with no walks and 5 strikeouts.

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the 4th when GCA would single with one out. USN would record a fielder choice, narrowly missing an inning-ending double play to get the 2nd out of the inning. An error and back-to-back singles would give Grace the 3 runs they needed.

USN would get on the scoreboard in the top of the 5th, capitalizing on a HBP and walk by pitcher Jameson Napper (Vanderbilt Commit). A balk would advance both runners into scoring position before Harry Stahl '27 would come home to score on a passed ball.

With the score 3-1 going into the top of the 7th, the visiting Tigers would get the first two runners with no outs! The Lions would catch a break when Mahoney would hit a screaming line drive that their SS snared. With two outs, the Tigers would draw a walk to load the bases, putting the winning run on base. Unfortunately, the USN rally would end there as GCA would induce a flyout to end the game.
