2024 Home meet #1 - highlights

Coach Robbie
Tigers run strong in the first meet of the season!
On the girl's side:

1) Layla Fierce lived up to her name and ran as such in both the girl's 100 and 200. Layla finished 4th in the 200 and is the first USN girl to break 30-seconds (29.41) in the 200-meters this season. Layla's performance is even more impressive considering she has been juggling 2 sports this spring season.

2) Though I was not surprised by her performance, Sadie Mae Bass proved she has more speed than she realizes by finishing 2nd in the Girl's 400, with a personal best time of 71.59 seconds. Sadie Mae will definitely be under 67 seconds by the end of the season.

3) Madeleine Wiseman finished 2nd in the Girl's 1600 meter run with a PERSONAL BEST time of 5:45.48. Madeleine then came back to finish 3rd in the 800 meter run with another personal best of 2:45.48.

4) In her first track and field meet ever, Stella Liebeskind shook off the nerves and represented USN well, as our only girl thrower in both the discus and shot put.

On the boy's side:
1) Braylin Davis took on a big workload as a sprinter in the first meet of the season. Braylin competed in the 100, 200, 4 x 100, and high jump. Braylin set a PERSONAL BEST in the 100-meter dash (11.80) and won the 200-meter dash by running another PERSONAL BEST (24.54).

2) Braun Moore won the 400-meter dash with a new PERSONAL BEST of 54.55, just barely edging out teammate and training partner, Binyam Dunne (55.02). These two also ran strong legs (<54-seconds) for the 4x400, where USN finished 2nd.

3) Last but not least, freshman Miles Lewis, who has had to miss over a week of training so far this season, was able to rejoin the team on Monday and run personal bests in both the 1600 (6:49.50) and 800 (3:12.91) meter races. Miles is new to track but has a lot of potential in both these events.

The "athletes of the meet" for meet #1 were Madeleine Wiseman and Braun Moore.

Madeleine set PERSONAL BESTS in both of her races, which is practically unheard of in the first meet of the season. This alone would/could warrant Madeleine being recognized for this award.

However, what "stood out" to me was Madelein's commitment to her USN teammates. Madeleine was not originally scheduled to run the 4x400, but she willingly and happily volunteered to fill in for the event, which her team nearly won. It is not and will not be uncommon for us to have athletes fill in for each other. However, not every athlete responds to such requests with the high level of fervor and tenacity exhibited by Madeleine on Wednesday evening.

As for the Boy's side, Braun Moore did run a slight PERSONAL BEST in his 400-meter race. However, Braun is being recognized because there wasn't one time I looked over in Braun's direction where I did not see him either smiling/laughing and/or encouraging/supporting a teammate. It felt like there were 3 of him walking around sometimes because I saw him all around the track, always supporting his teammates. Though I am new to this team, Braun has consistently shown a willingness to listen, learn, stay positive, and step up to the plate for his team; his actions during the meet were no different. Braun is the consummate track and field professional and a cornerstone of the boy's team.
