Battling through both Halves
The Tigers came into their last game of their three day gauntlet Friday afternoon. After two hard games Wednesday and Thursday, the Tigers had another opportunity to become better and compete against Battle Ground Academy. The game started out very physical. Both teams were making a lot of contact and fighting for every ball, for every inch of space, and the referees let them play. Both teams had a limited amount of open shots and second chance points. Battle Ground found tough post up shots and baseline out of bounds shots and the Tigers earned some timely threes, had a few tough layups through contact, and even some shot fake jumpers. At the end of the first half the Tigers trailed by 4, 11-15.
In the second half both teams adjusted to more foul calls and a slower paced game. Without the speed and manufactured chaos, Battle Ground Academy was able to find their footing and took control of the game’s pace. The Tigers weren’t able to get as many shots up and found themselves pressured on defense. Despite the effort and tenacity on defense the Tigers couldn’t get their shots to fall. The Tigers lost 13-35.
The notable players of this game were CC Cook ‘29 with 5 points, 3 rebounds, 2 steals, and 2 assists, Alexandria Manoukian ‘29 with 5 points and 4 rebounds, and Johnsie Dawkins ‘29 with 1 point, 5 rebounds, and 3 steals. Throughout this week, the Tigers have faced three tough opponents back-to-back. They’ve faced adversity head on and everyone contributed to amazing shot making, defensive stops, and team bonding. This team is learning to battle for each possession and learning to love the process of getting better. As the Tigers enter the last few weeks of their season their mental toughness, their grit, and their skills will catch their stride that will help them compete until the last whistle blows. Let’s go Tigers!
