Tigers Off to Strong Start, Fall Just Short
Tigers battle hard, but fell to Antioch in their home opener, 37-39.
Nashville, TN- What a game! The night began with a thrilling start to the season as our JV Girls battled back from an eleven point deficit to come up short just two points at the end of the game. With energy building, and the stands beginning to fill, our varsity squad came out strong and ended the 1st quarter with a 12-6 lead over Antioch High School. Antioch battled back, but thanks to the sharp shooting of junior guards, Tessa Chomsky and Uma Peters, the Tigers entered the 4th quarter with the lead. As the 4th got underway the Tigers were hindered by untimely turnovers and tough shots made by the opponent. USN finished just two points short of Antioch as the girls executed a perfect end-of-game play that rimmed out at the buzzer. It wasn’t the end they’d hoped for, but everyone left the game encouraged by the apparent improvement from the previous year! Senior guard Kate Vaughn also recorded a game high 6 assists, and senior forward, Josie Whelan, contributed 5 steals in her foray back into basketball after a year away from the sport. The Tigers will face-off against crosstown rival, Hume Fogg High School, this Friday 11/17 at 6:00pm at Hume Fogg. Go Tigers!
