Tigers defeat St. Cecilia with a strong second half
Johnsie Dawkins '28 scored a hat trick to push us to a victory.
It can be tricky to play on a Monday without a practice to prepare and the Tigers showed they needed the first half to come alive. While we had several great plays in the first half, there was a lag in both attacking and defending that left us scoreless at the break.
We came back from halftime ready to play! Within the first few minutes of the half we had several chances on goal and ended up earning a penalty kick. Johnsie Dawkins '28 stepped up and buried the penalty to get us on the board. Not too long after, Kenzie Burke '29 had a strong tackle in the midfield and played the ball to Natalie Choe '28 who was able to play the ball through to Johnsie. Johnsie got a quick shot off and put us up 2-0. Not long after, Johnsie completed her hat trick by taking on the backline and getting one in the far corner.
Later on in the half, Sydney Lasher '29 dropped the ball off to Ruth Boehler '29 who was able to take a nice touch toward the center and get a strong shot off that hit the upper corner to put us up 4-0.
As time was expiring, Alexandria Manoukian '28 took a beautiful free kick that Johnsie got a touch on, but it was Layla Janhagir '29 that came flying in from the outside midfield position to bury the ball in the back of the net!
Our back line kept SCA at bay and Indigo Petragila '29 had a particularly strong game at outside back. She was in good position, winning tackles, and playing great through balls down the line. Keepers Josie Vogt '28 and Hattie Bishop '29 get their first shutout!
Final score was 5-0. Way to go, Tigers!
