USN Middle School girls soccer faced Brentwood Academy on Wednesday afternoon for the first game of the season. Neither team has much practice under their belts but both teams were ready for competition. Brentwood Academy came out strong and was knocking on the door of our goal for the first 20 minutes of the game. Strong defensive play from Johnsie Dawkins, Elinor Bird, and Alexandria Manoukian kept them at bay. Josie Vogt, Hattie Bishop, and Tate Dawkins all had tremendous saves and defensive plays from the goalkeeper position to keep the score 0-0. With less than 2 minutes left in the half, a strong BA player found some space outside the box to get off a strong shot that hit the upper corner for their first goal. Tigers went into the half down 0-1.
The second half was pretty evenly matched, both teams had chances to score. BA found an opportunity to get another long range shot and found its way over the head of our keeper. 2-0 ended up being the final score.
The coaching staff was so impressed with our positioning, effort, and ability to make changes on the fly.
