The USN Tigers faced the Ensworth Tigers in an aggressive two sets. While the Ensworth Tigers had impressive overhand servers, the USN Tigers were able to do the little things to maintain momentum and the lead throughout both sets! USN finished the match with the win, 25-19 and 25-17!
In this Tiger vs. Tiger match both teams had strong servers and both teams would go on serving streaks, making this match close throughout each set. What was really impressive about the young USN team was how they didn't allow Ensworth's momentum to get into their heads. They continued to play confidently and didn't get in their own heads even when Ensworth had a great play. They constantly cheered and their good energy helped this team stay focused and do the little things! For example, instead of just calling a ball "out," the USN Tigers would follow the ball out, get their toes to the sideline, and yell "out" with their hands up! They would move towards the ball even if it got caught in the net and yell "short." And they would keep moving throughout the rally instead of just standing still! These details kept them in the groove of the game and helped USN win both sets!

Mahalia Moore led the team with 8 of the team's 16 aces. Out of all 7 servers, all 7 earned at least 1 ace. This shows that our servers are able to stay at the service line and be offensive threats, but it also shows that our defense supports them by keeping them back there. On the defensive side, the team is making a more intentional effort to communicate and dive. In this game almost everyone on the court tried to make a diving play and even a few translated into a point or continued the rally! That willingness to use their knee pads extends the team’s defensive range and capabilities to really compliment their growing offense.

As this team gets better there will be more and more highlight worthy plays as they dive for balls, swing aggressively for hits, and get used to using all three touches. It’s super fun seeing this team evolve right in front of our eyes, so come support a match and see for yourself! Go Tigers!
