Quiz Bowl sent two full teams to the Scottie Invitational to compete against the best teams in USN's region. The journey began at 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 18. Twelve bleary eyed students arrived at the 19th Avenue entrance to hop on a bus and drive to Glasgow, Kentucky. Many players had never attended an in-person competition. However, whether it be questions on theoretical physics or "The Great Gatsby," both teams demonstrated academic excellence. All players and coaches wore masks and remained socially distanced throughout the event.

The varsity team, consisting of Emily Wykoff '22, Frederick Rudolph '23, Rohan Ramachandran '25, Ophelia Cherry-Pulay '25, Adeolu Ajayi '22, and Isaac Spiller '24, made the top playoff bracket and placed eighth overall. The B team, which consisted of Leala Nakagawa '23, Iris Li '23, Henry Wykoff '24, Will Ostroski '24, Laney Hirt '24, and Caroline Keiper '25, gave a valiant effort, as well. Rohan received third place in the overall individual category — a stunning achievement.

Emily, the team captain, said of the tournament, “I am very proud of our performance this weekend. To receive such great placement at an in-house tournament is an amazing beginning for our 2021-2022 season.”

The team salutes the USN transportation staff for organizing the ride to Kentucky and the staff at Glasgow High School for organizing the event.
