The Curb Youth Symphony, the most advanced ensemble of the Nashville Youth Orchestra Program, recently held its annual Concerto Competition at Blair School of Music. Nineteen high-level soloists on a variety of instruments, including violin, flute, piano, cello, oboe, trumpet, clarinet, bassoon, and horn, competed for two solo spots in upcoming concerts.
Sheeline Yu '21 was one of the two winners and will play Paganini's Violin Concerto in D Major with the orchestra in next year's winter concert.
Not content to settle for that honor, Sheeline auditioned the following week for the Middle Tennessee Band and Orchestra Association Mid-State Honors Orchestra and received the highest score among the violinists. She will be concertmaster of the 11-12 Orchestra in the upcoming Mid-State festival weekend in January. Stay tuned for notice of other USN instrumentalists who auditioned successfully for that group.
