Red at the Bone, by Jacqueline Woodson

Dear America, by Jose Antonio Vargas
Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Vargas, who was sent to the United States from the Philippines at the age of 12 by his mother, now opens up about his life as an undocumented immigrant in America.

Westside, by W.M. Akers
In a Manhattan divided by a 13-mile fence separating the affluent Eastside from its otherworldly neighbor, Westside, detective Gilda Carr specializes in “tiny mysteries,” but her latest case will bring her face to face with the darkness at the city’s heart. This inventive historical mystery/fantasy mashup, which the New York Times called a “superb debut,” is the creation of USN alumnus Will Akers '06.

We also subscribe to the NoveList Plus database (password available here), a great source for book suggestions. You can look up a book you’ve enjoyed and see similar titles, or browse lists on various topics and genres, both fiction and nonfiction. Try the “appeal mixer,” where you can mix up different characteristics, like “funny” and “likeable characters,” or “romantic” and “suspenseful.” There are also four different age ranges to search, from 0-8 to Adult. Once you find a good book, click the “Check the Library Catalog” link to see if we have it in our library.
