The Middle School Quiz Bowl finished off another successful season with a trip to the Middle School National Championship Tournament in Chicago. On Friday, May 8, Interim Director Juliet Douglas gave a warm send-off to Gray Ezell ’31, Max Haber ’31, James Keiper ’31, Lucas Lupu ’31, Neel Sinha ’31, and Zoey Wei ’31. They were headed to Chicago to compete in the Middle School Quiz Bowl National Championships sponsored by the National Academic Quiz Tournaments. On Saturday, May 9, these seventh graders went four and four against the best players in the country, placing 75th among the 192 teams competing.

On Sunday, May 10, they won their consolation playoff tournament. In the semifinals, they had to answer the final two questions to tie it up and force a sudden-death playoff. They got the sudden victory question and went on to win the championship match.

Lucas Lupu ’31 was named an All Star for his performance. He was the fifth-highest scorer (and second-highest seventh grader) of the almost 1,000 players.

The players thank their parents for supporting them and keeping them well fed over the two-day grueling tournament. They enjoyed trying Chicago-style pizza, and support from Nashville provided by Head of Middle School Joel Bezaire.
