On Saturday, April 26, 24 Middle School Quiz Bowl players competed in the 5th Annual USN Middle School Quiz Bowl Championship. Although USN was the only school at the tournament, the tournament included many of the best teams in Tennessee. USN won all five Tennessee tournaments this year. And it placed two more teams in the top four in three of those tournaments. As a result, it was very competitive to get a buzz and even more difficult to get a win.

In the end, Max Parker ’29, Anisha Nachnani ’32, Indy O’Hare ’32, and Lucas Lupu ’31 won the 5th Championship. In a thrilling final, they defeated Asher Huffman ’29, Ameera Amro ’32, Collins Spangler ’31, and Rose Doyle ’30. Other fast buzzers included Claire Yu ’30, Clio Cherry-Pulay ’29, Eliana Wolf ’32, Elliott Carlo ’32, Emily Nicholson ’32, Harper Hughey ’29, James Keiper ’31, Julian Schuetz Sevin ’32, Katie Jane Bruehl ’30, Matthew Golann ’29, Max Haber ’31, Miriam Westberry ’32, Neel Sinha ’31, Reya Roy ’30, Vihaan Sinha ’29, and Zoey Wei ’31.

Each team was led by an 8th grader: Asher, Clio, Harper, Matthew, Max, and Vihaan. It's almost time to say goodbye to these 8th graders (and Elliot George ’29 and Oren Schwartz ’29, who were unable to compete). As 6th graders, they won the silver division of the Fall Gallatin Tournament and continued their winning ways through this year.

All players celebrated their fast buzzes at a lunch provided by many generous parents, led by Amy Huffman and Shanna Hughey. In addition, the team thanks parents Maria Rivera, Emoke Pulay, Sarah Kaufman, and Sonal Gupta, as well as teachers Christina Milon and Heather Webber, for reading and keeping score. The team was excited to see Ms. Douglas in the audience. They also appreciate Operations setting up their rooms.

The season is not over for some of the Quiz Bowl players. Asher, Clio, Elliot, Harper, Lucas, Matthew, Oren, and Vihaan are headed to Chicago to compete in the National Championship.
