HS athletics recaps for February 20-26

As winter sports come to a close, soccer, tennis, and Ultimate Frisbee teams are starting USN's spring sports season at the River Campus. Read how the teams are getting the season started in this week's recap from Athletic Director Josh Scouten.
Hockey
After a winter full of hard-fought games, the 2025-2026 hockey season has come to an end. Monday night, our boys' co-op team played against JPII at Ford Ice Center, Bellevue, in the next round of the playoffs. Strong efforts were made by Joey Fried ‘27 and Jayden Charnpanichkarn ‘27 throughout the game, fighting for the puck and battling it out with JPII. However, in the end, our Tigers fell 2-1, ending their run. We are so proud of our students on the team, and look forward to cheering them on on the ice next season

Soccer
Boys Soccer played two cold preseason games at the River Campus Tuesday night, both against JPII. JV Boys kicked things off at 4:30 p.m., beginning with some daylight left. Being a preseason game, some players were able to try different positions on the field, take risks, and continue to mesh as a team. Ultimately, the game ended in a loss of 1-4, but the efforts were strong. Following the JV game, the Varsity Boys played at 6:00 p.m. The dark and wind had only made it colder, but the players warmed up as soon as they hit the field. They played strong defense and made some close shots on goal, but unfortunately, the game ended in a 0-3 loss. Head out to the River Campus Friday night to see your USN Tigers take on Middle TN Fire.

Ultimate Frisbee
Both Boys & Girls Ultimate are having great starts to their seasons. This past weekend, Girls Ultimate had the awesome opportunity to participate in a clinic with Nightshade, Nashville’s professional women’s ultimate frisbee team. USN girls learned valuable skills and new techniques and played alongside skilled athletes. This was a great opportunity for our Tigers, especially leading into this weekend, when both teams will travel to Atlanta to play in the Terminus Tournament.
