Boys win over B.A.; Girls fall to B.A., defeat SCA; TeSelle, Zou, Luffman, Twillie earn State cuts
The USN HS swimming team opened its 2015-16 dual meet season with a close combined loss to Brentwood Academy, falling 202-192.
Our girls’ team had a competitive double dual with Brentwood Academy and St. Cecilia. They earned a split, winning over St. Cecilia (118-85) and losing to Brentwood Academy (111-88).
Senior Natalie TeSelle and Trudy Zou were our individual event winners. Natalie captured the 400 freestyle and Trudy won the 100 breaststroke. Trudy’s 100 breast was a state qualifying time, as was Natalie’s 100 butterfly and sophomore Margaret Luffman’s 200 IM.
Natalie and Trudy were also a part of two second place relays; on the 200 medley relay, they were joined by Margaret and freshman Mia Pretorius in the 200 medley relay, and by Margaret and freshman Annie French in the 400 free relay.
Individual runner-up finishes came from Trudy (200 freestyle), Margaret (200 IM, 100 backstroke), Natalie (100 butterfly), and senior Ky Hall (50 freestyle).
New Region cuts were earned by Mia, Ky, Annie, Betsy Nolan, Katie Watke, Jessica Mei, and Caroline Hollahan.
The boys’ won over Brentwood Academy 104-91. Sophomore Joshua Twillie led the way, winning both the 50 and 100 freestyles. Senior Ben Werther added a win in the 100 butterfly.
All three boys’ relays also won, thanks to contributions from Joshua and Ben, as well as seniors Kevin Chen, Mitchell Coverstone, and Jack Reed, and sophomore Henry Standard.
Joshua’s 50 freestyle time was a state qualifying time. New Region cuts were also earned by Ben, Jack, Mitchell, Kevin, Jay Karp, and Elliott Clark.
The Tigers return to competition in December, hosting Cookeville High School here at our home pool on Friday, December 4.
