Michael finished fourth in the 100 backstroke with a time of 51.49 seconds, dropping nearly a second off his own school record. His time was half a second under the automatic All-American standard. He also broke his own school record in the 100 butterfly, winning the consolation heat to take 9th place with a time of 52.08. Michael’s third and final school record came leading off the 400 freestyle relay, where he completed his 100 freestyle leg in 48.70.
Michael was joined by McLain Gore, Holt Akers-Campbell, and Logan Jones on the 200 medley relay, which also scored in finals. They finished 14th and narrowly missed their own school record.
Additional outstanding swims came from Holt, who had two lifetime bests in the 100 butterfly and 500 freestyle, and McLain, who had a lifetime best in the 100 breaststroke. McLain’s 100 breaststroke moved him up to 4th on the USN all-time top 10, and Holt’s 500 and 100 fly were 5th and 6th, respectively. For good measure, the 200 yard split of Holt’s 500 was also a best time and good enough for 10th on the list.
This marks the conclusion of the team's 2009-2010 season. Michael will be honored as a first-team All-Region performer at the Middle Tennessee Swimming banquet this Thursday, and the entire team will present its season awards at the USN winter sports evening on Monday, March 8.
