The Middle School team, joined for the first time this season by the 5th grade Tigers, competed amist humid but raining conditions. By all accounts, USN student-athletes were focused and it looked like they had fun.
The weather held out and we were able to have a full meet on Wednesday against MBA and Harpeth Hall. In terms of team scoring, our Boys Team finished first with 114.33 points, and our Girls Team finished second to HH with 63 points.
One of the big points of this meet was to run different events to complement their main events and to try new things. Each person will not run the same event every week.
Girls Event Winners: PV-Holly Schreiber 8'0", 4x100 (Holly, Chloe, Alima, Eva) 56.44, 4x200 (Alima, Olivia, Eden, Lia) 2:09.36
Boys Event Winners: SP-Jonathan Nichols 31'7", DT-Jonathan Nichols 91'9", LJ-Jackson Liff 16'6", PV-Oliver Entrekin 6'6", 110H-Jordan Turner 17.06, 4x100 (Jackson, Jordan, Jonathan, Joshua) 51.45, 100-Jordan Turner 12.36, 4x200 (Jonathan, Joshua, Jackson, Jordan) 1:48.40, 400-Joshua Gilbert 65.18, 200-Joshua Scretchen 26.77
Other Highlights and Shout-outs:
-Emphasis was placed on our 4x100 and 4x200 relays at this meet, and that paid off with four wins and fast times! The boys all-J team (Jordan, Jonathan, Joshua, and Jackson) ran particularly well to take down MBA.
-Two highlight events were the 400 and 4x400 relay with a lot of people trying these for the first time. The 400 is one of the most challenging races in all of track & field because it falls in between sprinting and long distance. However, we had some great performances and gained valuable experience!
-We had several people (Jordan, Jonathan, Tate, and Reed) do six or seven events, which is unusual. The limit is seven (three field events and four running events), but this was a good point in the season for them to try a lot of events. As we get into the away meets and HVAC, events will become more about quality over quantity.
Tigers of the Week
Girls: Eva Wuerth
-After some nervousness about her first 400, Eva rocked it! She ran our fastest 400 (70.32) and 4x400 split (70) in addition to long jumping (13'4"), running our fastest 100 (14.64), and anchoring the winning 4x100 relay. What a day!
Boys: Tate Keuler
-Tate threw a big PR in the discus (73'3"), hurdled (22.96), and ran our fastest 1600 (5:51), 800 (2:34), and 4x400 split (60). This is a very rare combination of events because distance runners, throwers, and hurdlers rarely overlap...
