Girls defeat SCA, Centennial; boys and combined teams lose to Centennial
The USN swimming Tigers had a busy week last week, which began with a meet on Tuesday against Centennial High School and St. Cecilia.

It took us a little while to get going, but the meet got better as it went on;The girls posted wins over both Centennial (85-82) and St. Cecilia (94-74).  They were led by junior Trudy Zou, who won both the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke in some of her fastest in-season times ever, well under the State qualifying time.  Senior Natalie TeSelle added a win in the 100 butterfly in a season-best time.  On the girls’ 200 medley relay, sophomore Margaret Luffman and freshman Mia Pretorius joined Natalie and Trudy to take first place in a season-best time.  Margaret added two second-place finishes in the 100 free and 100 back, and the girls’ 200 frestyle relay (Betsy Nolan, Annie French, Mia, and Caroline Hollahan) finished second as well.

The USN boys’ team lost to Centennial 94-63.  Josh Twillie and Kevin Chen earned the only individual wins of the day, taking the 100 breaststroke and 100 backstroke, respectively.  Josh’s 100 breaststroke time was a new State qualifying time.  The boys’ 200 freestyle relay (Josh, and seniors Ben Werther, Mitchell Coverstone, and Jack Reed) also took first place.  Jack also added two runner-up finishes in the 50 and 100 freestyles.

Other strong swims came from Elliott Clark, who dropped two seconds in his 100 breaststroke, and Foster Cook, who cut three seconds in his 100 freestyle.

The team returns on Saturday to compete against the rest of our MTHSSA Division at Ensworth.
