Artclectic Education Day delights students, artists
Every October, University School of Nashville’s annual art show featuring 60 juried artists brings together the school's finest elements: volunteer spirit, community outreach, and art appreciation. This three-day event display of art includes events for parents, alumni, and our neighbors and friends to benefit the Artclectic Endowment for Innovative Teaching. Artclectic also provides valuable art education for K-12 students during the school day.

In addition to hosting visitors in our Sperling Gym turned art gallery, Artclectic provides valuable art education for students.
“I love the way the school encourages the kids to participate and engage,” says Katie Adams, a mixed media artist from Birmingham, Alabama.
We want to give our students the opportunity to meet and learn from the artists. Students study the artists and their work prior to Education Day, the Friday of Artclectic, taking place this year on Friday, October 20. They craft insightful questions and make thoughtful observations about what they see. Experiencing art up close, feeling the contours of the surfaces, and making their own brush strokes on a canvas exposes students to the depth of artists' works and inspires their own creativity.
All Lower School students tour the show with their teachers and parent docents. Middle School students walk the gallery with their enrichment classes. High School students can often be found volunteering in addition to participating in demonstrations and gallery tours.
“I love USN and each time (I participated in Artclectic) I was impressed by the programs I witnessed underway,” says Amy Crews, a painter from Birmingham, Alabama. “The students are very thoughtful with their questions.”
Parent of an alumna James Threalkill is the featured artist for 2023. An Artclectic veteran known for painting with vibrant colors throughout the show, Threalkill will hold live painting demonstrations in the West Wing and Edgehill Lobby during the week of Artclectic.
Artclectic supports innovative teaching by providing funds for USN's extraordinary teachers to attend workshops, explore new ways of teaching, and bring back innovative and visionary ideas to write new curricula and share with our students. Learn more about this art show by visiting artclectic.org.
The senior has been awarded one of the most highly selective merit scholarships in the nation, making it two consecutive years that University of Virginia has selected a USN student for a full ride covering the cost of instruction, housing, and meals.
