By Lily Palmer, HS Theater Director

On Saturday, May 13, University School of Nashville was well-represented by 14 High School theater students at the Spotlight Awards held in the Tennessee Performing Arts Center's Jackson Hall. USN is one of 34 schools that have adjudicators from TPAC attend school musicals for consideration in the awards, and this year the Peabody Players earned an impressive 13 nominations.

On the evening of the awards, USN students were met by a familiar face; this year's host was Middle School Theater Director Bakari King. Meanwhile, Riya Narayan '23 was one of six finalists in the Outstanding Lead Performer category. As a result, she had the opportunity to perform "Somewhere That's Green," a solo from her role in "Little Shop of Horrors" presented during the fall semester.

Henry Gatto '25 brought home a Special Recognition Award for puppet manipulation for his work as Audrey Two in "Little Shop." Additionally, the cast was asked to perform the show's opening number, "Skid Row," as a crowd pleaser performance. This tremendous honor was amplified by the roaring crowd as Addi King '26, Kari Belle King '24, and Leah Joseph '24 took the stage.
