Faculty, staff share summer achievements

While students were away this summer, faculty & staff received accolades, earned achievements, and accomplished professional and personal milestones.

Lower School Instructional Coach and Math Specialist Iloire Nye earned her Master of Education in Independent School Leadership from Vanderbilt University. The 15-month program brings together independent school professionals from across the country to build community and actively engage in discourse related to relevant theory and practice within independent school systems. 

Vanderbilt University Police Department officers working in USN’s Office of Safety & Security had the opportunity to undergo professional development to prepare them to enter classrooms and teach students about various facets of safety. 

VUPD Sgt. Anthony Jones attended the Campus Safety Conference in Houston, where he received his certification as a Law Enforcement Against Drugs and Violence Instructor, learned about various ways to keep our campus safe, and saw different types of technology that schools across the country utilize to enhance their security programs. 

Community Service Officer Rochelle Law-Wagener spent time in Colorado obtaining her certification as a School Security Officer from the National Association of School Resource Officers. 

VUPD Sgt. Anthony Jones and CSO Lakeith Washum completed a self-defense course, enabling them to teach self-defense classes at USN to our high school students, faculty, and staff.

At the Southern Association of Independent Schools Summer Conference, High School Counselor Latricia Watkins and Lower School Counselor Trish Buckner presented on solution-focused approaches, sharing their expertise with peers from across the nation.

Assistant Director of Marketing and Communications Ian Dinkins earned his Accreditation in Public Relations (APR) this summer. Ian gained this accrediation after completing a self-assessment of his work, presenting to a panel of accredited professionals, and passing the 4-hour exam.
