A friendly reminder on how and when USN notifies parents, students, and faculty of school closings due to snow and ice.
by Juanita I.C. Traughber, communications director
In the event USN will delay opening or not hold school for the day due to inclement weather, we will post an announcement at usn.org, share this information with WKRN (Channel 2), WSMV (Channel 4), and NewsChannel 5, and send a Pushpage email. This information should be accessible by 5 a.m. These methods also are used when school closes early, although that decision may be made during the day.
You also can sign up to be notified through the Emergency Alert System, which sends text messages, voice calls, and emails to individuals who have opted in. Click here for directions on how to review your settings and update your contact information.
Please be mindful of road conditions in your neighborhood and use discretion when USN remains open. Exercise caution and consider personal safety as the first priority.
After-School and Middle School After-School are not open when USN cancels school for inclement weather. On delayed opening mornings, After-School and MSAS are not open before school begins and will open at 3 p.m. as usual. When USN closes early or cancels sporting events, After-School and MSAS will stay open until the last child is picked up, and parents are encouraged to come as soon as they can so staff can get home safely.
With our centenary Commencement now in the steamed up rear-view mirror, it’s time for taking stock of what all happened in the run since August. My favorite lens to provide focus for that project is gratitude. Not surprisingly, there’s plenty to reference, and here goes, though by no means exhaustively, followed by a short wish list for your summer hiatus at the end.
