Generals fall to Central Catholic in Spirit Game

Greg Anderson
The Harding Generals varsity football team took on a formidable opponent in Central Catholic on Thursday, Sept. 13 in the annual Spirit Game. The parochial league in recent years has had fewer and fewer teams culminating in only one team this year fed by multiple parochial league schools. The Generals were  unable to match the firepower and numbers of Central Catholic, falling 33-0.

Harding hung tough through the first quarter of play, trailing only 7-0. The defense forced a fumble on the first offensive series from Central Catholic, which was recovered by Chase Franck HA'19. The offense, though, was unable to capitalize and couldn't get much going against the aggressive Panther defense. The offensive line of Walker Lindsey HA'19, Mark Ryan Henderson HA'19, Dax Woodard, Drew Cook and Huston Thrasher HA'19 performed valiantly under the circumstances. Two of the five were playing out of position and the Generals had no subs to put in their place the entire game so their perseverance through a great deal of adversity was commendable. Coach Lucas was extremely proud of their effort on a very hot day, playing on both sides of the ball with virtually no breaks against an opponent that went 3 or 4 players deep at each position.

The Generals are back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 25 when they play their final game of the year at Donelson Christian Academy at 5:00pm. Go Generals!!
